Pine Cone Bird Feeder

You'll need:

an open pine cone 
1/2 cup vegetable shortening or lard 
2 1/2 cups oats or cornmeal
bird seeds 
a few feet of string

Let's start:

Mix together the vegetable shortening and the cornmeal.
Next tie your string to the pine cone and cover the pine cone with the mixture you just made.
With your pine cone covered with vegetable shortening and cornmeal, place the pine cone in the bird seeds as the final step.
Tie the pine cone to a branch outside and wait for the birds to come along.
